Be a ‘Friday Finisher’ Every Day

Completing and finishing a ‘to do’ list, or as I prefer to say a 'ta da' list, may for some people at present seem to be a mundane idea. Especially with so much time at home or place of residence in which ‘lockdown’ phase is spent they say. They feel there is no place to go except the next room or the next window to look out of. All they get to see is if there is any change in the neighbours back yard. And that they sometimes feel is stimulation enough to want to close the curtains and go back to bed.

But how do you make your week work and make it feel as though there is still some rhythm and spark in it? The fun and variety like it had 2 months ago when ‘normal’ was still in existence? You had a job to go to and a routine perhaps. On reflection did that even back then seem a little tiresome? Was there and is there something more you are seeking?

Well, there is what is called a ‘Friday Finisher’ week that you can work by and put into play for yourself. It is to give you back some sense of ‘normal’ and also to give yourself a weekly rhythm. Achieve this despite the lack of people around you and the change of demands on your plate right now.

A ‘Friday Finisher’ week starts with the first step of you asking yourself the following question: “Did I know what had to be completed by 5pm on Friday?” If it’s a yes – great! If it’s a kind of ‘no – not really’ answer then try adding this really easy routine to your week to kick off your first ‘Friday Finisher’ week. It doesn't have to be arduous, but something you can feel really good about as you consider crossing the finishing line of actually getting that done by 5pm Friday. Feel into what that can be for you, write down some possibilities, feel into the relief, and well done me, the progress, your impressive initiative. Pro tip. If your list is big do a visual and feeling gauge of each item on the list and the ones that you give yourself the highest feel good feelings on, on that 1-100 gauge...choose them.

The second step is to make a list of all the things you 'should' do this week and have completed by 5pm on Friday. It could be as simple as calling into the grocery store to pick up some catmeat and to go for a walk each morning. Or possibly each day do some gardening and writing a new chapter to that book you always had within you to write. Not too hard, right?

Use that pro-tip again too. Feel into any of these items that you feel could be mundane and see what you can do to add some fun and spark to them. How can you get yourself feeling good or at least a little better about getting them ticked off too. Share your fun ways with us.

So create a ‘to do’ or 'ta da' list for each day. Then with each day simply tick off your daily ‘ list of items or things to be done as you complete them. Repeat this each day and by 5pm Friday you might find you have quite a full completed list of things that you have done and made progress on.

This routine will bring back a sense of rhythm to your day compared to someone who plays out the day as it comes. With this simple technique added to your day you will start to feel some sense of ‘ new normal’ in each today. Rather than being that person sitting around watching TV too much of the day, being in a habit of eating the wrong foods, or consuming too much alcohol. Doing the things that are conducive to you creating or keeping that fit strong body, mind, spirit and healthy immune system, might just have lots of benefits for you and those around you too.

So as you sit there pondering on whether to open the curtains or not to the outside world... get your paper and pen and join the Friday Finisher club with us.
